The Benue State Ministry of Marine and Blue Economy was established to unlock the vast economic, social, and environmental potential of the River Benue and its inland waterways. The Ministry serves as the coordinating body for policies, programs, and activities related to marine transport, fisheries, aquaculture, sand dredging, shoreline protection, and other blue economy enterprises within the State.
Our mission is to ensure the sustainable utilization of water resources to drive economic growth, create employment opportunities, promote safety and security along the waterways, and contribute meaningfully to the State’s Internally Generated Revenue (IGR).
The Ministry works in close collaboration with relevant government agencies, development partners, and private sector operators to promote responsible investment, innovation, and inclusive growth across the marine and blue economy value chain.

To regulate, develop, and promote the sustainable utilization of Benue State’s marine and inland water resources through effective policy implementation, infrastructure development, capacity building, and strategic partnerships with communities, investors, and development partners.
The Benue State Ministry of Marine and Blue Economy is mandated to harness, regulate, and manage the State’s marine and inland water resources for sustainable development. We promote safe, productive, and environmentally responsible activities along the Benue River and its tributaries supporting fisheries, transportation, tourism, and other blue economy enterprises that create jobs and generate revenue for the State.
